Lyrics

In An Ordinary Way

It’s that time of the year
When the sun and moon
Trade places
And shadow fills
All the spaces
So you only see part
Of what is

This year seems so different
Something bad got mixed in
With the news
Wrong has right
All confused
Who knew there was
So much to lose?

Maybe there’ll be a future
Or at least a next day
That’ll be extraordinary
If only
In an ordinary way

There’s a cat on my block
She’s been stealing shoes
They’re not something
That she can use
Is she just another cat
Not thinking it through
Or is she answering the question
“What should I do?”

And there’s a clock tower ringing
Calling out a song
There’s a rhythm and
It’s singing along
Playing a part
Carrying on

Maybe there’ll be a future
Or at least a next day
That’ll be extraordinary
If only
In an ordinary way

So I’m left wondering what
Good I can do
The world is sad, but it’s
Beautiful too
And pretty good is pretty good
That’s still true

It’s that time of the year
When the sun and moon
Trade places
I hear something in
Shadowy spaces—
Sounds like
Singing to me
Sounds just like
Singing to me

Maybe there’ll be a future
Or at least a next day
That’ll be extraordinary
If only
In an ordinary way
